There is something about the final days of October that instill in me the kind of excitement one typically expects to have left behind in childhood. By today, a mere one more "sleep" (as we used to call nights counted down in anticipation of something special when I was a youngster) away from All Hallows Eve, it's all I can do to actually get a single wink of sleep.
I'm giddy with happiness and excitement, fighting the urge to put on my costume now and just sit near the door, bowl brimming with sweet treats in my arms, to hand out to all of the little ghouls and goblins that will come a knocking in two nights time. I both want the 31st to get here dearly, and at the very same time, am trying to preserve every last second of these final, chilly wind kissed October days. For all too soon they'll be over more quickly than you can unwrap a mini chocolate bar or say "hocus pocus".
It's anything but a state secret that I love - nay, massively adore - with a passion that knows no bound - Halloween. I wait for it with great intensity and anticipation each year, celebrating every day of October as an extension of All Hallows Eve itself. These final couple of days though, right before the crispy leaf swirled magic of the day itself is unleashed on the world, is very nearly as wonderful and perfect as Halloween itself.
Today's roundup of Flickr image pays tribute to the spooky, sweet, immeasurable fun of this week, which I know is a firm and beloved favourite of many of you as as well. I hope that - should you need an extra dose of enthusiasm this year, it will help deliver just that your way.
Enjoy these moments of spirited (perhaps in more ways than one!) merriment, these final days of October's glowingly golden sunlight, and the remaining one day of countdown until Halloween itself appears - like the Great Pumpkin rising from the pumpkin patch - once more.
Lovely pictures, darling.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing Marilyn so young, bright and fresh-looking. I prefer this image of her than any of her platinum "my skirt is in the air" ones.
Now, may I notice something:
You must be counting hours 'till Halloween, no? :D
(you'll tell me all about it, will you?)
Many hugs from busy-bee

Certainly, your post is a great inspiration .... I am preparing a small family party at my home, because you know that Halloween is not celebrated in Spain, so I take a lot of energy to your delicious posts to get a perfect party here. Thanks for all that, dear Jessica!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of images! I've always loved the ones of Norma Jean that are on the more casual side, they've always been a source of inspiration for me.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your enthusiasm about the holiday. I used to be like that up until this year. And I just don't know what's wrong with me. *sigh* I hope you have a wonderful Halloween and I can't wait to see your costume!
xoxo

So have I - it's really as though she was a different person when she was younger. I love both halves of her (all too short) life, but I feel like I can relate to Norma Jean better than MM.
DeleteDon't worry about it, sweet Janey, there are some years when I really, really don't feel certain holidays myself, especially if there's something (or multiple things) in my life that is really stressing me out/worrying me at the time - or if I've come through an extra rough patch before the big day arrives. It doesn't mean I - of you - love said holiday any more, just that others things in life took precedence over it, whether we intended for them to or not.
Thank you for your comment, my dear friend. I hope that even if you're not feeling it big time, you and Patrick will have a terrific Halloween all the same.

Happy Halloween to you, dear. I've forgotten to buy treats and last year quite a few children came trick and treating, so I'd better stock tomorrow on my way home from work. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved the first picture! Housewife gets a witch's hat and broom, but still get's to sweep the floors!!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn looked so very young and fresh !
Thanks again for a great posting !!

Aw such lovely Halloween images, glad you're getting excited about it!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I wouldn't mind a set of those Pyrex dishes in the fourth picture... Hope you have a wonderful Halloween tomorrow night, lovely lady, and hope to see some pictures of your costume x
ReplyDeleteYour words make me understand how strong is the tradition of Hallowen in your country. I can't wait to know more details . . .
ReplyDeleteSo many pumpkins! We don't see much Halloween festivities here in Australia and when I visited North America last year during Halloween I was obsessed with seeing all the beautiful pumpkins. Fields of pumpkins! Love them!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween dear gal.
xo
Wishing you a very happy Halloween. Hope you enjoy all it brings and that you have a fantastic time.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, dear Kate! I wholeheartedly hope that you have a fantastic October 31st, too. I'm so eager to sport my costume and take of snaps of it (which I hope to get up in a post within the first week of November - asap at the very least! :)).
DeleteHappiest All Hallows Eve wishes, my sweet friend!

I adore that photo of Marilyn! Great collection :)
ReplyDeleteAbbi
Isn't it terrific! I feel I relate more to MM as her younger Norma Jean self than with who she went on to become, so those earlier photos of her are my faves.
DeleteThank you for your lovely comment, honey. I hope you have a frighteningly fabulous Halloween!
♥ Jessica
It really is! I think that a good part of why I adore Halloween so much is that it doesn't usually carry the stress (or the potential for such) that some of the other big holidays like Christmas have. I love every holiday for different reasons, but the fact that Halloween is usually focused just on having a blast, eating candy, and dressing in whatever kind of costume you want - plus all of the fabulously cool decorations - just makes me love it something fierce.
ReplyDeleteYou bet! Tony and I are both dressing up (I'll be sharing as what in a blog post here hopefully in the first week of November) and will be spending the night at my folk's place handing out candy, watching movies, roasting marshmallows and just have a (relaxing) blast. That's the perfect kind of Halloween night for me. :)

That pyrex is amazing. I have one of those Marilyn pumpkin pics on my blog today too, I really think she was prettier with the darker hair before she was all glammed up, of course she was always lovely
ReplyDeletekate the old fashioned way
Happy Halloween and may it be your best one yet! Terrific photos, as usual and I'm looking forward to seeing what you and Tony come up with when you are dressed for Trick or Treat! Have fun!
