Last month saw the return of the Vintage Fashionista Friday series, which had been on unintentional hiatus for more than two years. I was thrilled by the wholeheartedly positive response that May's edition received, and am definitely going to be aiming for at least one new Vintage Friday Fashionista post a month from here on out.
As the weather shifts into high summer gear (yes, it's technically still spring, but here in our charming corner of the Okanagan, Mother Nature has slipped into her itty-bitty, teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini and is already hard at work on her tan!), I'm feeling pulled toward a sizzling palette of punchy hues that call to mind glorious sunrises and sets, warm tropical sands, fruit filled mixed drinks, vibrant flower gardens, and gorgeous pinky-tangerine hued coral glistening in the sea.
I'm still smitten with green (which, as you may recall from posts such as this and this, has really been my colour of the year so far), but in recent weeks I've been feeling a strong pull towards clear, energetic shades of yellow and lush, toasty pinks as well. Suddenly, I want to combine all three and do my impression of a honeysuckle bloom bending its elegant neck up towards the sun.
We had honeysuckle that grew - intertwined with wisteria (making for one of the most pleasing scent combinations you could ever dream of encountering) - along the backyard porch of my childhood house here in Penticton, and my siblings and I used to delight in plucking the occasional honeysuckle flower and sipping out its wee droplet of sugary, sublimely perfumed nectar.
To this day, I can't see honeysuckle and not instantly be transported back to those sunny, fun filled summer days of my youth. Though I've not engaged in any nectar drinking in recent years, I still love the sight and scent of this lovely little bloom, and the colours - white, nectarine, melon, yellow, and of course coral (the latter of which just happens to be the name of today's Vintage Fashionista) - that it comes in.
I leave the honeysuckle sipping to the youngsters these days and instead take a wardrobe inspiration cue from this flower's fresh, joyful palette.
As the final vestiges of our winter wardrobe get packed away for the next few months, I hope you'll join me in embracing whatever hues you adore most from summer's resplendent spectrum of colour, weaving them into your own sunny weather ensembles - because this season, much like honeysuckle itself - won't last forever, and one needs to squeeze every last drop of ambrosia out of it while the getting is good!
What a great outfit you put together! Funny, the last couple of weeks I've been thinking about sewing a halter top or maybe a strapless one. They are perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteYou have some lovely things here, Jessica. I have always delighted in woven purses such as the one shown. I also like those high, button-up pants with the striped blouses. And that is a very pretty shoe...just love that shape.
ReplyDeleteI know! I long to soak up every moment of the season, practically fearing I will miss out on it, and it will pass before I can blink.
Thank you, Jessica, for you sweet comment on my photo post.
♥Hope
I adore coral and I have such a soft spot for cute wicker bags.
ReplyDeleteI happen to be wearing a bright yellow floral dress today, even though it's winter. So… I'm kinda embracing summer hues too… but maybe with a big coat over the top! ;)
xo
I can't say I've ever sipped a honeysuckle, ha, but I do have many things that bring back memories of the summer time!
ReplyDeleteI love those shoes =)

What a lovely hair flower! I always seem to be oohing and aahing over everyone else wearing them, but unfortunately can never seem to arrange my hair in a way that looks especially nice with one.
ReplyDeleteHair flower placement can be tricky at times, just depending on how one styles their hair and their face shape. I'm convinced that just anyone can wear - and look beautiful in the process - hair flowers, it's just a matter of finding a spot (for the flower to go on your head) that you're happy about. Try behind both ears, more towards the temple, on a poppy tail, tucked into a bun, at the nape of your neck (to one side) with your hair worn up, at the top or bottom of a braid, worn with a snood or hat, a wee bloom inside of a big Victory roll, as a crown across the top of your head, or in conjunction with a headscarf/classic handkerchief, to name just a few. Hair flowers are wonderfully fun little critters - just keep experimenting and you're bound to hit on a style involving them that you like (also, don't forget to vary the sizes of blooms you try, sometimes one looks better with bigger or smaller hair flowers).

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely have to give some of these ideas a try! :D
DeleteYou're very welcome, honey. Have fun - and don't hesitate to let me know if you hit on any favourites (another version that you might enjoy is a flower adorned or covered headband).
DeleteBig hugs,
♥ Jessica
I love that little shell bracelet, and those sailor trousers, I have a black pair but the coloured ones are so summery. xx
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your last Vintage Fashionista Friday but I think I like this one even better. I definitely want the white halter top and either the blue or pink sailor slacks, they would look just perfect accessorised with the coral and shell jewellery you've chosen.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! It's still spring here....so late in coming this year. Send some warmer weather this way! ;)
ReplyDeleteLisa.
I love how inspired you become of coral! I am learning to love the shade myself! Great list mama! xox
ReplyDeleteWhen did you peek in my head and see what I like the most?! Your choices mirror my desires perfectly. Those sailor slacks are what I would dream up if I took drugs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful necklace from Modcloth. I'd love one in gold.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. Love the purse! I'm looking for a new one this weekend, in fact. I want to find something much like this now that i see this one posted here. And you're right.. white wicker totally says summer! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the faux coral you've featured here. I love the real stuff, but only in the ocean where it belongs. This necklace is lovely. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend so far, Jessica!
This post gave me such a strong summery feeling. I could almost see the bright blue sea and hear the waves. Loving the accessories here, the shoes, the shell bracelet and the gorgeous hair lower. I have a thing about them at the moment. My hair is finally getting long enough for me to do more with it and I am looking out for decorations.
ReplyDeleteLove the glasses!

I really am loving this series lovely lady! Can't wait to see more....especially given the opposite seasons we are having. I am still quite happily wrapped in woollen coats and capes, but it is still fun to see what I might wear in summer!
ReplyDeleteI love these posts. I almost wish I'd thought of them first so I could have fun and do them on my blog! The sailor slacks are one of my favourite items of all time, and something I have yet to include in my wardrobe! Paired with that lovely white top they'd be perfect.
ReplyDeleteThose Tara Starlet pants I've had my eye on for so long! Soo cute. Too bad they don't have them in my size. I love the pink and blue colors!

ReplyDeleteI was moving down this post and saw my flower and my brain did a flip! Thank you, you sweet dear, for including "Spring Ginger" in your fashionista post! My favorite of your finds is that bracelet. What a beautiful design! And I actually just bought myself a pair of sailor pants (actual vintage men's navy pants! fun!).
ReplyDeleteOh and your reference to honeysuckle and wisteria growing together is intoxicating just to read!

You are entirely welcome, my dear - it's such a classic, beautiful hair flower (not to mention one that is especially well suited to summer's punchy palette).
DeleteHow awesome that you recently bought yourself a pair of sailor's pants! I don't have any myself, but gosh, do I want a pair (or ten! :)).
Sweetest thanks for your wonderful comment,
♥ Jessica
Oh, the halter top and the sailor slacks are just lovely! I'd love to have them in my summer wardrobe.

Oh I always love the shoes.... the handbag is so sweet and adorable. Everything here reminds me of YOU. Hope you are feeling better very soon Jessica... Gentle Hugs, Beverly
ReplyDeleteWhat a great selection of things! I especially like the coral necklace and the shell bracelet - so chunky and yet at the same time, very delicate.
ReplyDeleteEek! You are ruining my budget!! ;) Love those shoes! And I've been shopping around for a wicker handbag! Adore it!!
ReplyDelete~xoxo, CoriLynn
The coral gold necklace is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI have 70's coral necklace that was handed down to me by an aunt and i always feel a bit guilty when i see it as i am aware that real coral was used to make it.
I need a pair of those sailor slacks immediately!
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine recommended your blog to me, and I'm loving it! Keep up the good work!
I adore the sunglasses and the white top. And the soap is the perfect gift! Lovely and so inexpensive.
ReplyDeleteThat bracelet is definitely something that would bring that special something to any outfit :3 I also love that picture of those three ladies with nautical themed outfits ^^ I think the brightly coloured trousers really make those outfits unique :3
