Twelfth century French occitan troubadour Bertran de Born once said of this glorious day, "Well pleaseth me the sweet time of Easter, that maketh the leaf and the flower come out", a sentiment which all those who live in Northern Hemisphere can certainly relate to. By now, with May rounding the bend in just ten days, most of us have shaken free from winter's icy shackles - and if not, then we at least know, we're very close to that point arriving.

Here, the snow shovels have been tucked away again, the winter boots cleaned, stuffed with crumpled up paper, and stored out of site until next fall, and slowly Mother Nature is beginning to slip out of her ski gear and into her resort wear. There is life, fresh and sparkling, dangling in every drop of dew and on each soft-as-a-cat's-paw-pad flower petal.

We've had spring, if only on paper, for a month now and still two more wait before us, promising everything from snow cones to the first dip of a foot in local waters every bit as chilly as a frozen dessert. Rain is plentiful, but so is hope and beauty. Pond sized puddles catch reflections of rainbows, the farmer's market will soon overflow with carrots, berries, early greens, tender stalks of asparagus, goat's cheese, and new season potatoes. The mood that fills us all, old and young alike, is one of cheerfulness bordering on glee.

We made it through another lengthy Canadian winter, stronger and wiser, I'm sure, for having done so. Now it's time to celebrate - to sing, and dance (if only in spirit) and give thanks for the bounty, blessings, and unrivaled gentle soul of spring. It is a time for fresh starts, age old favourites, sweet treats, walks in the tender sunshine and Sundays, like today, spend in the cherished company of those you care about.

With all my heart, I wish you each a glorious, peaceful and endlessly lovely Easter and rest of the spring. May it be every bit as sweet as a chocolate egg the whole season long!

  4. Such a lovely post. Happy Easter, hope it has been a good one for you. That a Buster Browns ad made me laugh, those polished up children in their best outfits looking so neat and tidy and not eating all those chocolate eggs! Really?!

  5. Haha, My winter boots aren't tucked away quite yet. A lot of the woodsy trails I go on still are half covered in snow and ice. I was looking at photos from last year, and the plants are almost a month behind what they normally are. Oh well, the weather this week looks good. Hopefully spring is finally here!

Happy Easter! Hope you had a lovely day :)

    1. Thank you very much, sweet Kate. We had a wonderful Easter weekend and I hope the same rings true for you as well. Same here regarding the weather and mother nature's progress on the spring greenery front. We still have snow on the hills and in some of the shadiest spots here, but thankfully it does feel like spring is slowly returning at long last (we've had our first, albeit fairly small, thunder storm of the season, so that's usually a good sign that winter is vanishing once and for all).

      Big hugs!

  7. Happy Easter to you as well! Cute images. I love the photo of Gail Patrick - they used to do such fun holiday promos back in the day.
We've had a really intense winter here in Chicago too, and it's just such a relief to have a little warmth. We've had a couple of 70+ degree days (right before it drops back down into the 40s, of course), and it just feels like such a treat. I can't wait until we get some real, continuous spring.

    1. That we did! Though things are a bit chilly here as this week kicks off, so layers a must still at present. Thankfully Easter Sunday itself was respectably warm and fabulously sunny, which really helped add to the joyful mood of the occasion.

Certainly, feel free to email or FB message me anytime if you have some vintage related questions that you'd like to chat about.

      Big hugs,

  13. What a beautiful round up of pickies. I love the fact that Easter is Spring time for you and I'm always super jealous of that fact when we are in the throws of Autumn. I feel the ultimate Easter decorations should be flowering blossom branches, daffodils and primroses and see these looks in English Counrty Living magazines and die of envy. Happy Easter sweet Jessica xxxx

    1. Sweet Shauna, I think that it would be exciting and very fun to experience Easter in autumn (at least once), though do of course see your very valid point about blossoms, fresh verdant grass, and newborn animals (etc) suiting this holiday best of all. Do people in Australia decorate with items that channel a more Western Hemisphere oriented springtime season for Easter are are your Easter decorations more autumn-y?

      Big hugs,

  14. Here in Denmark it is also finally getting warmer. We took out our garden furniture the past weekend, and I cannot wait to sit outside again. What a lovely and poetic post this is. And thank you so much for all your lovely comments on my blog, now I really feel like I'm part of the vintage girls' circle. And so you already know why I'm behind with your blog, but I will be reading along the coming day, so watch out for comments from me. :)

    1. That's wonderful, dear Sanne! We've had a few lovely days in the teens (temp wise, I mean), but are going through a cooler rainy spell right now. I don't mind in the slightest though. Conversely to many people, I actually find rain to often be very invigorating and a great mood elevator for me.

You are 100% a part of the "vintage girls' circle", my lovely friend, and what a pleasure for the community it is that you are.

    2. You're the sweetest. Hugs. I've bought Brittany's bloggerific e-course, a reasonably priced treat to myself, I'm sure she has some tricks to share, so perhaps my blog will take on a more vintage turn soon. :)

    3. Very cool!!! I haven't read that eBook yet myself, but I'm sure it's jam packed with helpful information, just like her fabulous blog.

Have a beautiful, super fun weekend, dear Sanne!

  15. I really do love this! I love seeing vintage photos of families and how they lived. And Whitman's Samplers have been a longtime family favorite. I used to share them with my grampa when I visited him in the nursing home. I got the special duty of fetching him his Dr. Pepper and three musketeers candy bar, and of course Whitman's.

    1. What a wonderfully special memory, dear Sanne, thank you for sharing it with me (us). There are certain foods that I associate with each of my grandparents as well (for one grandpa, it was the scrumptious stroganoff and pancakes he made, for the other it's sunflower seeds, which he enjoyed an after-dinner dish of most nights when I was growing up).

      Big hugs,

  17. Such a cute lot of pictures. I always find it strange to see all this spring time Easter stuff because we are actually heading into Autumn over here. As usual, a week later and I am still struggling to get through that chocolate.

    1. I would love to enjoy autumn's splendors during Easter one year. It's my favourite season (by a long shot) and I think it would be so very cool to experience a "new" holiday during it. Perhaps we should house swap for Easter one year. :)

Big hugs & many thanks for all of your lovely comments this weekend, honey!
