Special Christmas in July themed edition of 25 vintage deals under a $100

Hard as it may be to believe, yesterday we hit the five month mark until Christmas Day. Immersed as we are in long, languid afternoons spent at the beach, gallons of sweet tea, and vintage sundresses as far as the eye can see, thoughts of Jolly Old St. Nicholas, visions of sugarplums, and the round-the-clock soundtrack of holiday tunes may just be the furthest thing from our minds, and yet...

Five months is not a terribly long time in the grander scheme of thing. Hop ahead a few more weeks from now and we'll be getting ready for fall, to send the wee ones back to school, for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the last precious drops of summer's fleeting warmth. Beyond that, it's a mere snowball's throw until we're decking the halls, trimming the trees, and baking enough sugar cookies to feed a small army, so really, is it all that preposterous to spend a few minutes focusing on Christmas in July?

I don't think so, and in fact, as a paper crafter (who adores creating homemade holiday cards), this is almost always when my mind starts, at least in part, to begin to push some of those thoughts of picnics, open toe shoes, and beach reads out of my mind and replace them with ones that are decidedly more December themed in nature.

Whether you're in the mood to bust out the White Christmas DVD yet or not, it's always fun, any time of the year, to reflect on Christmas and be reminded of some of the most delightful, iconic, and fashionable elements of this immensely important winter holiday. At the very least, surely doing so can't help but cool us all down a touch and surely that alone is a very, very good thing these sensationally warm days!

Admit it, by about the 17th entry you were starting to hum your favourite vintage Christmas song! :) Okay, well, I was at least and by the 22nd, had you asked me to start preparing a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, I would have gladly done so.

Just as it pays to purchase a winter coat or boots in the summer, so is a great idea to start stocking up (get it :D) on Christmas decorations, clothing and accessories - not to mention gifts for your nearest and dearest - now, when considerably fewer folks in general are doing the same thing. Plus, as it's the off-season, there's always the chance that some such items will be lower priced now than when the sound of reindeer hooves echo on the rooftop again (and that, after all, is in keeping with the spirit, the festive spirit in this case, of this very wallet friendly monthly post series).

Early though it may be, it's never too soon to save some money and stretch your budget dollars a little further, especially when it comes to the holiday season, which as we all know, has the pesky habit of costing more and more each year!

While I'm not even remotely close to ready to trade my beach towel for a tree skirt or my fruit salad for baked apples yet, but I don't mind thinking about Christmas, at least a little here and there in the slightest and had a blast putting this cheerful Christmas post together over the last few days, just as I hope you did while reading it.

Here's to the next five months and all the fun, turning over the the seasons, and eventual Christmas merriment - and thrifty shopping - they'll hold in store for us!

*PS*

In the mood for an early Christmas present of the vintage nature yourself this year? Then you absolutely must enter the fantastic giveaway for a $50.00 gift certificate from The Best Vintage Clothing that I'm holding at the moment. It wraps up in just two days, so now is definitely the time to enter!

  2. That green quilted skirt is to die for!! Ive been thinking about getting back into quilting lately, by making some bed spreads for the family but I bet the heavy fabric of a quilted skirt would be wonderfully warm and comfortable in the winter months. Thanks for sharing!! x

    1. It really, really is!!! I adore quilted 50s skirts and dresses and own two skirts so far: a black and red one. Perhaps not surprisingly, I wore the red one on Christmas Day myself last year, as it was both wonderfully festive and splendidly warm - a must during our ice cold Canadian winters. I've been searching for a quilted 50s dress in my size and budget (which I'm willing to be fairly generous with in this instance) for years now with zero luck, but I do like to think one will come my way some day. Fingers crossed! :)

Thank you for your lovely comment, honey. I hope you're having a great last weekend of July!

  4. I do love Christmas and must confess I've been already planning gifts and decor for this year.
I am in love with that gingham blouse from heyday and the quilted skirt. Oh how gorgeous either would be with a snowflake brooch! Oh well, unless I make the clothes or some money, they will have to go one the Christmas list this year.
And yes, I am singing "oh Come All Ye Faithful" to myself.

  5. My favorite time of year! I love that skirt, and those cute little cocktail forks! Now I just want to sip a big glass of eggnog while Peggy Lee sings Christmas Carousel.

  6. Just last night I was starting to collect some vintage Christmas inspiration so I was very excited to see this post come up! I not-so-secretly listen to Christmas music on occasion throughout the year, and I have started by gift-buying already. After growing up in the Northern hemisphere, it took me a long time to get used to a warm Christmas, and I finally have, but I still find that when it gets cold I think of Christmas too! I have often held Christmas-in-July parties, but not this year unfortunately. I will have to start planning for next year :)

You have picked out some amazing items. I would love that green gingham blouse! I was not only humming Christmas carols by the end of reading, but also wanting to make cookies, plan my Christmas outfit, and bring out the carol books and my keyboard!

    1. You're not alone!!! Every now and then, when the mood strikes, I'll listen to Christmas music at other times of the year outside of December, too. When I was growing up, my family had a tradition of starting the Christmas music season at 12:00 am on November 1st and to this day I carry that on (well, at least on the 1st in general, if I'm not up at midnight), but again, will listen to a song if so desired anytime of the year.

Thank you very much for the lovely comment - I can fully imagine, as someone from the icy northerly land that is Canada, how strange it must have been to adjust to a warm Christmas. I'd like to experience that at least once in my lifetime.

      Big hugs,

  8. love the red dress! I have been feeling a little nostalgic for christmas. I was contemplating using my xmas stamping plates already because they are so cute and I wanted to listen to my Elvis xmas vinyl recently but made myself choose something else.

  9. Jessica, thanks for featuring my red stretch belt. And I love, love, love your red thermoset necklace and brooch and that green quilted skirt is fab. So many of those 50s skirts come with very small waists. But I have found my seamstress can easily remove the waistbands, trim a bit off the top of the skirt to make a larger waist. Take some of that extra fabric to add to the waistband and sew it all back together. Oh yeah and she moves the zipper down if there is one.. Works like a charm! And since I love to wear 50s skirts I'm no longer disappointed when I find one I love and the waist is too small for me. I know I can have it altered quite simply. So you never have to pass one by if you really like it!

  10. I can't believe how long it has been since I was last on the blogs (I've been studying alongside working full time) so I've sat down with a cup of coffee to have a read through what you have been up to lately and this post could not be more topical for me as I went into town today to buy the first of my Christmas presents. My mum has been dropping hints like breeze blocks about wanting an electric propagator for Christmas and pointed one out in the shops. When I went back today they were gone and I was told they are clearing out all of their gardening things to make way for the next season so they won't be getting any more. I was literally hopping with frustration! Hopefully my other half will be able to track one down for me as he lives in a different city so they have a bigger version of the same store. This has become a mission!
Anyway I hope you are well darling and can't wait to read more of your goings on!

    1. Welcome back to the blogging realm, dear gal. I'm touched that one your first comments was here on this post and that you found its timing so serendipitous to your own life. I will keep my fingers firmly crossed for you that an electric propagator will somehow still show up for your mom before Christmas. Are there any good online gardening or outdoor living shops online in your country that you might be able to order one from for her?

Big hugs & many thanks again,

    1. Thank you very much, sweet dear! Our Value Village does that, too! I wish they'd do it with Halloween items, too, as that's my favourite holiday. They might put the odd October 31st themed piece out every now and then, but they don't have a dedicated section until the season draws near (which, happily, it almost is again!).

  15. The sock change purse looks like the sort of demented stuff you find at church holiday bazaars-and I mean demented in the best possible way. Someone's granny made that beauty and probably sold it for .25 cents feeling mighty proud of herself. Now I *have to* go to the craft store and get the hardware to make them for everyone this Christmas. Just imagine the looks on the family's faces come Christmas morning when they tear away the wrapping and find those! Talk about wanting something you never knew you wanted.

I love the quilted skirt too. Can't really have too much holiday specific clothing, can you?

  16. Ah, the amazing "need to have a holiday" feeling - and no holiday in sight. I, too have those moments (no, birthdays don't count).
I say: we need some world-wide summer celebtarion. it would make the wait lot shorter. And it would give us opportunity to give and receive something that does not look like socks and gloves. :) Summer holiday would also give us the chance to eat ice-cream instead of drinking hot tea.. and to have a party under the night sky insted of indoors (with heating on).

    So many reasons..
But one is most important: summer holiday would give us the chance to once more tell all those folks how much we care for them, and what they mean to us.

  17. You know, I usually DO begin my Christmas shopping in about september or october, that way I don't spend one huge amount of money in one month but rather distribute the spending.
I think the red long stocking is so much fun.

  18. Oh, I just adore Christmas! :) I am really Christmas crazy, so this was just fabulous reading for me. I loved the green skirt and the soap bears and ... I loved it all.

I came home from our holiday in Austria two days ago and am catching up on your lovely blog reading backwards in Bloglovin'. And talking about Christmas decorations, I love to decorate for all seasons, and bought some autumn decorations in Austria. I already look forward to displaying it. In Austria they are very fond of wood and make such beautiful things out of it. Perhaps I should make a blog post about it. Wishing you a lovely day, dear. :)
