Tell me what you want, what you really, really want

...to see...

On my brand new Chronically Vintage YouTube channel.

Last weekend, I'm thrilled to say, we (Tony and I) created the first two little videos. The first is a welcome clip for my About page for the blog, the second a welcome to my YouTube channel. Here they both are:

Now, while I wouldn't say I'm entirely without ideas for videos, unlike when it comes to blog posts (which I, no word of a lie, have pages upon pages of possible topics for, most of which work best in the context of a written post), I do not yet have scads of ideas for specific YouTube videos and would truly welcome your impute here.

If there's any sort of vintage, product review, lifestyle, fashion, beauty, wig wearing, thrift store shopping, etc related subject that you'd like me to explore on YouTube, please let me know in the comments here, by email, or on YouTube itself and your suggestions may very well end up in a future video.

I would wholeheartedly appreciate it if you subscribed to my channel as well, as I'm creating it, my sweet dears, as another awesome avenue through which to share my love of, and knowledge on, vintage topics with all of you. If you could post about it on Facebook, Twitter, your blog, and anywhere else you'd fancy, that would be seriously fantastic, too.

Thank you all so much!!! Here's to this very cool new venture and all the exciting Chronically Vintage YouTube activity that lies ahead!

  1. Yay Jessica, this is so exciting! Your videos are lovely, your personality shines. Although -- this is so silly -- I got a shock to hear you with a North American accent! I think it must be me projecting when I read your posts in my head but I did spend a moment wondering where your Aussie accent had gone, haha

    1. Too cute! :) Nope, no Aussie accent here, just a good, ol' hit of West Coast Canadian (which usually sounds just like West Coast and Mid-Western American).

    1. *Blush* Thank you very much, honey. I love that - finally!!! - more of my true, fun loving, super cheerful personality can come through online. Often, I've felt, it didn't always do so (at least not as much as I'd like) on my blog and social media, but on video the sky is the limit there. :)

    1. Thank you very much, darling gal! A lot of folks are saying that. Either they didn't expect me to have a West Coast Canadian accent or they thought I'd be a lot more serious and somber sounding in person (that one throws me for a bit of a loop, as I'm the most happy, upbeat person 99.9% of the time). It's so cool to be able to finally share my voice with all of you and let you know that I'm a chipper, cheerful person when I speak! :)

It was a scary plunge to take for sure, but I'm already immensely happy that I did and find that the whole video making process gets easier and less nerve wracking with each video. Hopefully in a few months, I won't have a single butterfly in my tummy when I get in front of the camera. :)

I sincerely appreciate your comment and support - thank you again!

    1. Thank you very much, sweetheart! It seems to be a lot of folks felt the same way and assumed I'd have a much more serious, somber speaking voice and mannerisms. I get that (as I talked about in most right before my 30th birthday last month, I'm well aware that I often come across online as being more formal/serious/stuffy than I am in real life in the slightest) and am truly so elated to be able to finally show everyone online that I'm really a super cheerful, happy-go-lucky, upbeat person 99.9% of the time.

You can indeed. My voice is pretty high and also fairly young sounding (no joke, I often still have people, who haven't spoken to me before, call our house looking for either me or my husband and ask if "my parents are home" - as I'm now 30 years old, that always cracks me up a good deal! :D), but I don't mind at all - I think suits me well, if I may so myself. :)

Thank you again for the awesomely nice comment,

  14. Must be video week (I shot my first one this week, but haven't uploaded it anywhere yet). You did terrific on both of the videos, and you're easy to understand (I'm thinking of putting subtitles on mine as I have a rather strong regional accent-no joke).

It will be fun to see you out and about in your beautiful city bringing all your outfits to life. Let's face it, a good part of fashion comes down to how it moves, so being able to see you on video is going to be much, much different than the static limitations of the blog. You know what I mean, so many times you wear something thinking, "Should it be worn up or down or whatever", and seeing someone (you) who knows what they are doing (you do) will be quite helpful.

Best of luck with this-how exciting!

They're terrific and very much inline with what I've been thinking I'll often post about. We just shot another video last night (likely going up next week) and it's entirely fashion related, as I'm sure many to follow will be as well. I'm enjoying the video making process immensely and can hardly wait to see what I'll create next! :)

  18. Ah, you're very sweet :) Tutorials would be great - how to style hair, do a cat-eye, that sort of thing. I'm looking forward to seeing it!

I had my own share of dental problems when I was younger, so I can (almost) relate to the teeth - but I only noticed when you pointed it out. We're always our own worst critics when it comes to stuff like this. You're beautiful xx

    1. That means a great deal to me, thank you. Thankfully, the videos don't expose just how bad my teeth are (crocked, very crowded due to a small jaw, some missing in the back, etc), but I'm still massively self-conscious about them. Like I said in the second video though, (sadly) there's nothing I can do about it at the moment, but I can start making videos - no sense in letting something like that hold me back any longer!

Thank you for the post suggestions, I really appreciate them as well.

  19. Dear sweet Jessica! I'm so glad that you have challenged yourself and moved forward with YouTube. You are a beauty through and through:) It was so lovely to hear your voice and I felt like I was having a cup of tea with you. Can I say this in the most positive way? The first thing I thought when I heard your voice is that really added a lot of youthfulness to your character. Your writing is so articulate, artistic, and well thought out but it is so nice to have this extra dimension to get to know you more. We really get to meet you and see life through your eyes. I smiled all the way through your video, you look beautiful and I wish you great success with your upcoming YouTube series:)

    1. Thank you deeply, sweet Joanna. You have so eloquently summed up the differences between how I (often) come across online and how I really am in most real world settings. There's such a striking juxtaposition between the two in a lot of cases and it's not something I set out to create, but rather that happened organically (a point that I touched on in my "Thoughts on who I am as I turn 30" post last month). I adore that creating videos now gives me the chance to show (sure, I can say as much in a post, but sometimes a picture - or a video, in this case - really is worth a thousand words!) to the world what a chipper, upbeat, happy-go-lucky person I am 99.9% of the time.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart,
      ♥ Jessica

  28. It feels so strange to actually hear your voice and see you in motion! But in a good way. You are so cute!! And I am so glad you aren't letting issues of self-consciousness stop you. It's very inspirational, especially because it is my teeth that make me the most self-conscious too.

I am sure there are so many great videos you could make that I would enjoy, since you know so much about vintage. But naturally I have a hat-related suggestion. You always have such beautiful vintage hats in your photos, and I would love it if you could use the medium of video to show us more angles of them, how they are attached, and the insides. Obviously as a milliner I would find that fascinating, but I'm sure it would be helpful to those looking to shop for vintage hats too. (The same would apply to the details and insides of vintage clothes and jewellery too - helping to see what to look for, how to recognise well-made items, how to tell, for example, 40s from 80s-does-40s and so on.)

I'm really looking forward to seeing more videos from you. This is great fun!

    1. Thank you deeply, dear Tanith. It means a great deal to me that you can relate on the teeth front. So many people are able to have their dental issues corrected as a child, but mine were well beyond what "just braces" could do, so I never had them and it wasn't in my parent's means to have corrective dental work done when I was growing, nor has it been in mine yet, but I admittedly believe it will happen one day.

Ooooh, awesome suggestion! I will definitely shine the video spotlight on vintage hats in some of my future posts. Thank you for suggesting that, honey. I really feel like vintage fashion related topics are my strongest suit and hats are, humbly, no exception there, so I'll certainly plan to chat about them in front of the camera (including some more details, how they're attached, etc).

      Huge hugs!

  38. I love your voice! It's very close to what I imagined :) My teeth are imperfect too - I will never be able to afford to fix them. There is more to worry about in life! I am excited for your YouTube channel. I would like vintage make up tutorials (I like a full vintage look for nights out and go for 'natural' in the day), vintage hairstyles, especially ideas for shorter hair and anything about what accessories and shoes look right with what era clothing. I bet there's so much you can share with us!

    1. You're so sweet, dear Philippa, thank you very much. Never say never - that's been my stance when it comes to my teeth. I know that it will cost five figures to fix properly, but I remain hopeful that somehow it will happen some day. I dream, quite literally, of what it would be like to smile without feeling incredibly embarrassed and self-conscious. Though, yes, that said, there are other more pressing things in life to worry about (at least most of the time ;)).

Those are all lovely and appreciated suggestions, thank you very much. Given the amount that I often shake (thank you, severe chronic pain et al!), I fear I may not be the best candidate for makeup and hairstyle howtos in which I style things on myself. However, should I have a more steady handed day, I may very well try my luck on that front, especially since they seem to be areas that a ton of folks that have comment so far want to see videos about. I can also do things, too, like "my X number of favourite beauty products for 2014" or something like that, which would be less about applying the products and more just talking about/reviewing them.

Styling videos are something I'm definitely going to be doing and will be aiming to produce many on an array of different styles, garments, accessories, etc as time goes on. If there's ever a specific style, era, garment or anything else you'd like to see how I style (assuming I own said item, that is :)), please don't hesitate to let me know.

If there's any type of outfit, garment, etc you'd ever like to see featured in particular, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I don't know about what I would like to see, I'm sure I'll appreciate everything you come up with. But how about showing your wardrobe and making a series of it, with styling tips, matching and contrasting, choosing jools and accessories? You could also make a series of building a vintage wardrobe by showing your items. Many peope, like myself, are visual, and might remember your videos better than written list. I'll write again if I get more ideas. I cannot wait to see whats next on my new favourite channel. Good luck, cutie. :)

    1. That's a wonderful to look at things, sweet Kate, I completely agree. It's liberating in a way, if that makes sense, to finally be able to share this real world side of myself with my lovely viewers and online friends the world over. They get to see my chipper, upbeat side and that I'm not as serious (all the time at least) as I sometimes, usually unintentionally, come across in my blog posts. Beyond that though, it's also another way to connect with vintage fans everywhere and to create fun, helpful videos for those who may find they prefer connecting with me visually, instead of through written posts.

Thank you very much for your great comment, including letting me know that you enjoy getting wind of new videos on Facebook and my blog.

      Huge hugs,
      ♥ Jessica

  43. I just see two comments from me, althought I got an error that it wasn't place in the first time and had to rewrite it all again, so just delete the second one. Leaving comments on my iPad is quite annoying. :(

  44. You are so damn cute on video! It is almost like meeting you in person.

Hi Jessica. I've been lurking around your blog for ages now, I love the detail in your outfit posts and photos. Have a lovely day.

    1. Aww, and you are really darn sweet, dear Fashionista, thank you very much!!! There's a new video going up later this morning, so you'll get to see another few minutes of me "in person" there this week. :)

      Big hugs,

  45. i wasn't sure if my comment took on this post and looks like it didn't, or i either missed it. loved seeing your videos and finally hearing your pretty voice. you're right you do sound young, even younger than i do. i have an oddly deep voice for someone my age. ::shrugs:: can't wait to see what you have in store.

what i'd like to see is maybe some vids on upcoming shop items? it might also be another way to get the word out on your wonderful etsy shop!

    1. Awesome suggestion, dear gal, thank you! Tony has been pitching as much since the moment I opened the shop and now knowing that you'd be interested in such videos too really makes me more inclined to create some. Once the rush and hecticness of summer (and our trip at the start of the fall) has wrapped up, I'll definitely try to get some shop related videos up and out there for all to see.

Big hugs & many thanks for all of your fantastic comments this week,
      ♥ Jessica

  46. It is so awesome to hear you talk! Your voice is just so adorable, I want to give you a massive hug! I always love seeing vlogs from my favourite bloggers, because it helps to give a voice to their written posts. Good on you for taking the plunge and starting your own channel.

    1. Thank you very much, sweet dear. It took a good long while to work up the courage to do so, but I'm so happy now that I can finally share my actual voice - not just my written one - with all of my online friends and readers. I might have been a bit slow getting out of the gate there, but there's no stopping me now! :)

      Tons of hugs,
      ♥ Jessica

    1. Thank you very much, my wonderfully lovely friend!!! I'm aiming for one new video each week. That's a bit of a lofty goal, given the uncertainty of my health from one day to the next, coupled with other factors, but it's the goal all the same and hopefully it will be able to happen at least a fair bit of the time. :)

      Oodles of hugs,
      ♥ Jessica
