Despite - or perhaps, the argument could be made, in part even because of - the fact that this has been, and will continue to be, the busiest month of the year of me, I'm teeming with an abundance of holiday spirit this year.

Honestly, I think it would be very, very hard to organize and host the annual Vintage Secret Santa gift exchange here and not be flush with feeling of comfort and joy. Beyond that wonderfully fun element of this season though, there are the 12 Things That Make Me Disproportionately Happy About Christmas, as well as many other reasons that a lofty sized smile remains on my face throughout the month.

Unquestionably, one of those points has always been the chance to deck myself - much like those well known halls - out in holiday finery. From about mid-November (yes, really, that early) to the first week of January, a huge number of my outfits are focused squarely on Christmas and (later on) New Year's, and this is has long come to be one of my favourite elements of the season.

I love shopping for vintage, repro, and vintage appropriate festive winter garb and aim to add new pieces of such to my closet, as I find them, all through the year. Some of my most recent, as those who follow me on Instagram (see this photo) might know, are three super wintery themed brooches from the awesome UK vintage style jewelry brand Luxulite (I also picked up a perfectly summer appropriate brooch from them that will be ideal for the annual Peach Fest that our town holds each summer).

I already had four Luxulite pieces, each of which I adore, and knew that some of their holiday offerings would be an ideal fit for my cold weather wardrobe. I'm sporting one of them in the photos above today and am sure the others will appear here in good time, too (if not this year, than during future holiday seasons). I love the substantial-ness of this brooch, its merry holly leaf and berry theme, and how joyful a piece of jewelry it is.

Keeping the merriness going, I finally got a chance to share my awesome Heyday holiday themed Fleur dress with you guys! I bought it during their after Christmas sale in 2013 and wore it often last year, as well as a couple of times this year (before we had a day where the weather was nice enough to take photos in - the others had been super rainy), but it has eluded being captured on camera until now.

I love this dress. Like, really, really, really love it. I own another Fleur as well (it's a floral print, so it suits spring and summer best), and both are major favourites in my wardrobe.

Like all of Heyday's offerings that I've bought over the years, they're comfortable, well made, and imbued with an excellent sense of vintage style and charm. Honestly, I love this darling Christmas ornament print dress so much, I'm half tempted to wear it even when it isn't Christmas!

Looking at these snaps, the title of today's post sprung to mind, because I really do feel like this outfit is a wearable version of the kind of seasonal loveliness that Christmas greeting cards often abound with. This ensemble is completely fun, which, ideally, is how a good chunk of this time of the year should be for all of us.

Busy though I am, and even though we had a hit of sudden stress this past weekend when our sweet dog Annie ran into some gastrointestinal problems that needed medical vet care (she's doing a lot better now, I'm very happy to report), my Christmas spirits really are high this year and I am eagerly look forward to bringing you guys at least a couple more festive ensembles before the last of the holiday decor comes down in January. :)

*PS* Another thing that has really been fueling my happiness levels this week is the fact that this past Sunday, my Etsy shop - where everything is currently on sale for 30% off until January 4th - hit a major milestone: 1,000+ items sold. To say that I was ecstatic about that fact would be a major understatement!

  1. This is such a lovely outfit - and I love your post title! What is more classic than red, green and gold for Christmas? Nothing - and nothing better either ;) I've not ever owned anything from Heyday as the length of their stuff has always put me off a bit - I don't wear dresses quite this long usually. But now I can't work out why I don't - it looks so great on you and we're virtually the same size!! I might have to rethink that :) x

    1. Thank you very much for your splendidly nice comment, sweet CiCi. Midi length frocks and skirts are my all-time favourite, as they're the most flattering length on me, so I just adore that both of the Heyday dresses I have hit me there. One could easily hem them (or have them hemmed), if so desired though. My Heyday pants are a bit too long, but if I wear them with heals that are 3 inches or taller, they usually don't hit the ground (and, I swear, I was just saying to Tony earlier this week that one of these days I want to take them to a seamstress to have a couple inches or more hemmed at the bottom so that I can wear them with a broader range of shoes and also keep the hems from getting tattered). I could see any of Heyday's fab offerings looking all kinds of gorgeous on you, sweet gal. I'd really like to pick up another item of two of theirs in 2016 if possible (ideally if our poor, battered Canadian dollar finally starts to improve a bit again).

Many thanks again. I hope that you're having a fabulously fun weekend!

  3. Dear Jessica,

Oh how I love red! You look very festive, indeed, in this lovely dress!

I think a spring/summer print would be such fun. This dress looks so feminine. I really love the easy of slipping into a simple dress - no fussing with keeping a blouse tucked into the skirt, or the skirt shifting on the waist.

I bought myself several vintage dress patterns that I hope to make very soon.

    Merry Christmas!

    1. Hi sweet Hope, I'll try to do a post with my other Heyday frock in 2016 (I haven't featured it here yet before). It's an immensely romantic floral print and I sense that you will adore it as much as I do.

Oooohh, how exciting! Happy vintage pattern sewing. Please feel free to share some of your wonderful creations with us on your blog. I'm sure they'll be breathtaking.

Aaand Congratulations on hitting the 1000+ mark on your etsy sells! I'm still wearing my purchases from you shop on a constantly frequent base.
Even with not being able to list new items on Etsy for a while now, I'm surprised that I constantly sell items. Etsy is really a great place for selling vintage. Some pieces just need a little longer to find their new loving Homes. Isn't it nice to see that people start to buy from you a second or third time ...?

    1. Thank you very much, my dear friend. It's still a little surreal actually. I'd secretly hoped to hit that mark this year, so doing just that more than two weeks before 2015 wrapped up with an especially joyful moment. It warms my heart to know that you're enjoying your items form my shop. Each one that you've shared on your blog has looked awesome on you!

It absolutely is! I debated a few different online selling platforms before launching my shop in 2014 and have never regretted going with Etsy. I honestly think its the best possible online spot for my wares and love the success that I've been able to achieve there so far (definitely! Repeat customers are marvelous and make up a really nice portion of my buyer base). It's exciting to think what 2016 will hold on the Etsy front for both of us!

Tons of hugs & happy holiday season wishes,

    1. That is so wonderfully sweet of you to say, Ally. Thank you! Your compliment means all the more to be because my jewelry collection is unique from a lot of people's because my nickel allergy makes a lot of metal pieces off limits. Thankfully between safe metals and metal-free materials (plastic, wood, glass, etc) and a lifetime of collecting, I've been able to build up a treasured array of costume jewelry that means as much to me as if it were all precious jewels.

Have you ever tried clamper bracelets? They often look much the same as bangles, but can sometimes accommodate wider wrists.

Tons of thanks again! I hope that your having a fabulous holiday season!

    1. Thank you very much across the board, dearest Liz. I really appreciate your concern for Miss Annie. Hopefully, yes. She's not 100% out of the woods yet, but is making improvements for sure and thankfully is responding well to her meds.

The Fleur would look sensational on you. I know that you'd style it in such a fabulously forties style! I want to add some more of Heyday's great offerings to my closet, too, but with our poor Canadian dollar being in such rough shape, it's getting ever harder to buy outside of our own boarders, let alone in the UK, where the pound is so strong. Perhaps another Heyday sale would be the answer for both of us.

Big hugs & super happy holiday season wishes!

The giving aspect of Christmas is my favourite and I love to see a happy face during the Christmas season. I can honestly SEE why you have chosen every single item in this outfit. It sparkles! It has such a strong sense of Christmas, that it manages what seemed impossible: it reaches out of screen and dazzles (no, no.. it's not "too much" - there can never be "too much" when talking about Christmas).
I hope Annie's problems are not huge. We get so attached to our animal-friends. And, for a reason: there is that ONE living being that will always be there for us, not judging, not fighting or nagging at us & not thinking "Seriously: wearing THAT outside?!"

    1. Thank you very much, sweet Theresa. She's not entirely "as good as new" quite yet, but is certainly worlds better than the weekend before last.

Isn't the brooch delightful? Luxulite makes such strikingly charming, thoroughly vintage appropriate pieces. I was so happy to pick up three of their winter offerings this year, especially since they tend to sell out quite quickly.

I hope that you're doing wonderfully and have a fantastic and very fun filled holiday season.

      Big hugs,
      ♥ Jessica

  35. Everything about this outfit is cheerful and fabulous, and yet still I am distracted by how great your red handbag is! Goodness I'd love that exact bag in several colors! It's such a nice size! Anyways, beautiful holiday worthy ensemble Jessica, the print on the dress is too perfect!

    1. So would I!!! It is, hands down one of my top five favourite vintage bags that I currently owned and likewise one of the top five most frequently used. Other than the fact that it's a touch heavy (due to the wonderfully sturdy metal frame) even when empty, I can't find fault with it and will be crushed when it eventually gives up the ghost one day (*shudders*).

Thank you very much for your wonderfully lovely compliment and for sharing in my massive adoration for this fab mid-century bag.

Oodles of hugs & super happy Christmas Eve wishes!

    1. Thank you very much, sweet lady! I think of you and every time I wear one of your beautiful namesake frocks (I have two so far and hope to add more to my closet as time goes on) and could happily live in them. They're stylish, comfy, classic and super pretty.

I hope that all is well on your end and that you're having a splendid holiday season!

      Big hugs,

  38. This is such a fabulous festive outfit; I love everything about it. It really suits you and you look exactly as if you have stepped off a 1950's Christmas card. I love Luxulite brooches, I have treated myself to several this year, including the snowy winter wonderland one. If funds had allowed I would have got this holly one too. Congratulations on your Etsy sales, that is a major achievement and very well deserved. I hope Annie is much better now. Merry Christmas, have a wonderful time.x

    1. Thank you so much across the board, my sweet friend. I hope that you're having a super fun holiday season. Ours is going great, complete with one of the loveliest Christmas Days I've had in a while.

Luxulite's brooches are the bee's knees. They're quite a big investment for me, too, especially with the exchange rate, shipping and import costs, but they're spectacular and worth every penny, so I'm happy to invest, so to speak, when I can.

Tons of hugs & joyful New Year's countdown wishes,
      ♥ Jessica
