At the moment Morticia Addams would be very proud of me, for you see, the three tiny roses bushes that call our wee speck of a front yard home are currently bloom-less. They have imposing thorns and richly vibrant green leaves, but their heads have all been nibbled off by our local deer.
While I do adore seeing roses in front of our home, I'm not upset at these majestic creatures for turning our yard into a salad bar. They need to eat and I feel fortunate to be able to provide them with a snack.
I realize that this attitude is not shared by all those in our town - which has been absolutely teaming with wild deer for many years now - but I appreciate these beautiful animals and love that they feel comfortable to come so very close to our house (the roses flank our outside walls).
Still, I was looking forward to seeing some red and pink blooms this month, and so to get my springtime rose fix on, I thought it would be oodles of fun to round up some of the most eye-catching and enjoyable vintage rose related fashions and accessories that have crossed my path online lately and share them here with all of you.
Roses are, hands down, my favourite flower ever. Their timeless romance, powerful beauty, and sublime scent - coupled with their rich history - all combine to create a flower that speaks to my poetic heart and soul alike, while also making for a very frequent player in my yesteryear wardrobe.

Are you keen on rose themed fashions? Which of these beautiful vintage and vintage inspired offerings appeal to you the most?
I cannot remember a time when roses didn't speak to me. I gravitated towards them in gardens as a small child, watched them provide a gorgeously scented backdrop for much of my youth, carried a blood red verging on burgundy bouquet of them down the aisle, and have spent a lifetime cultivating quite a collection of roses for my home decor and closet alike. I know that these ageless flowers will always stir something strong and wonderful deep in my spirit and I love them all the more for that.
Fortunately, even if the deer get to your roses, too, or you otherwise do not have any around your own home, you can always bring a bevy of these magnificent blooms into your house via pieces like the vintage charmers featured in today's post.
Interestingly, I've found, even those who often say they aren't fans of floral prints/imagery, often have a soft spot for roses. They're intriguing, subtly mysterious, immensely pretty flowers that play a roll in many events throughout our lives.
It's hard not to adore them, and harder still to leave your wardrobe completely rose-less. And really, why would you want to when so many stunning wearable iterations of this classic flower have been created over the years?
I have been so tempted by the last dress from Garb-Oh Vintage since I spotted it a couple of weeks ago but I'm worried it might look too girly on me. At my age I have to go careful with things like that. If only I could try it on first! Great selection. xx
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just "turn your knees to jelly" amazing? That dress is seriously topping my vintage garment wishlist right now. I'm sure though that some other lucky lady will get it to it ages before I might be able to. C'est la vie!
DeleteThank you very much for your lovely comment, dear Cate. Have a stellar first week of June!
♥ Jessica
I love flowers everywhere.
ReplyDeleteLovely post.
Happy Sunday

Same here! They're the perfect blend of beauty and joy.
DeleteMany hugs & wishes for a fabulous - and very flower filled - summer!
♥ Jessica
Just beautiful! I do love roses, they are my very favourite flower. The Mexican skirt is perfection.xxxx
ReplyDeleteIt really is devastatingly gorgeous, I completely agree. I own a lovely assortment of vintage skirts, including numerous genuine 50s ones, but do not yet have a single hand painted Mexican skirt. Finding a gem like that in my size and price range would be a long standing vintage fashion dream/goal come true (one day, I hope!).
DeleteBig hugs & joyful start of June wishes!
♥ Jessica
I so love a good theme post. Thanks for these beautiful images. I am a huge fan of roses and feel their pull as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you sweetly, lovely lady. I share your passion for theme posted and really did have to smile over how this one came about. :)
DeleteOodles of hugs & happy first week of June wishes!
♥ Jessica
What lovely choices, Jessica. As chance would have it, I've just bought a dress featuring roses a couple of days ago. Big hugs, Ann xxx
ReplyDeleteHow marvelous, dear Ann! Three cheers for a new rose print frock joining your closet. No better time for it than now, as we gear up to head into summer.
DeleteTons of hugs headed straight back to you,
♥ Jessica
A lovely array of rose bedecked items. The Mexican skirt is divine! I wonder if purple rose prints for 80's does 40's/50's were common, since the skirt in 15 has a very similar print to an 80's does 40's rayon dress my mom gave me (except the print is smaller and has paisley).
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend wishes!
You know, I think you could really be on to something there. I have a gorgeous 80s does 40s/50s rose print dress with a purple background that, colour palette wise, isn't that dissimilar to that skirt (which, as a side note, has sold in the days since this post went live). What a cool observation, dear Inky. Thank you for sharing it - I will definitely be looking for more 80s purple rose garments now. :)
DeleteHuge hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
While I love floral prints, roses aren't usually my favorites. These are all lovely vintage items, though! ;)
ReplyDeleteI totally get that. Roses aren't everyone's cup of tea and that's a-okay. What are some of your favourite blooms - particularly in a fashion context?
DeleteMany hugs & joyful June wishes!
♥ Jessica
Love that gorgeous red dress and the swimsuit! Roses are definitely timeless. :)
ReplyDeleteThey definitely are and I just love the sense of visual poetry they impart to any setting - garden, wedding, fashion, you name it.
DeleteMany hugs, sweet Laurie, and happiest wishes for the month of June!
♥ Jessica
Love the rose theme! The red tea dress is so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just stunning? I could see that working awesomely as the base piece - fittingly - a garden party outfit.
DeleteBig hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
I definitely think roses are a very elegant flower. They aren't my all time favorite (Daffodils steal the day), but they are very beautiful flowers, and as such are rightfully depicted in many ways in fashion, jewelry, and home décor.
ReplyDeleteSarah

Daffodils are absolutely marvelous as well. I've always been a big fan, but in recent years, they've really skyrocketed up the list of my favourite blooms.
DeleteOodles of hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
Rose floral is one of my favorite summertime prints! Beautiful finds :)
ReplyDeleteSame here, sweet lady. We're definitely two peas in a pod there (or would that be rosebuds on a branch? :)).
DeleteMany hugs & joyful wishes for the month of June,
♥ Jessica
wait until the deer is nibbling on your dress :-)
ReplyDeletei hope tony makes a photo of it!!
love roseprints too - especially the more abstract ones from the late 50s. so fab!
thank you for this inspirational post!
big hugs!!!! xxxxxx
While that would be sort of cool in a way, because it would mean I was that close to a deer, it's probably better if they don't get a taste for vintage cotton. My closet could be in serious danger if they did! :D
DeleteI know just the type of pattern that you mean and really like them as well. Abstracts florals hit their sophisticated zenith in the 50s and early 60s and remain some of the most memorable patterns of that era to this day.
Tons of hugs & happy first week of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
Gotta love a rose floral print, lovely blog post gorgeous lady! xo
ReplyDeleteBig time! :) I had a feeling you'd be keen on this round up, my fellow vintage floral print loving gal.
DeleteOodles of hugs & joyful wishes for June,
♥ Jessica
I am glad that you feel this way about the deers; I think I would feel that way too, if I had deers around. I also looove roses, my favorite flower too, and I loved this post! I love all things rose, prints, brooches, earrings, all! So I loved the pendant, the first brooch and the earrings in your store, now! And my word, this amazing dresses with roses, and the shirt - I would wear them right now! Thank you for the recommendations, all very feminine and beautiful, dear Jessica! Hugs and regards!
ReplyDeleteDenisesPlanet.com
You're very welcome, sweet Denise. Roses really are a magnificent flower that work superbly in a fashion context, too. I'm delighted to know that we share an unwavering passion for them.
DeleteBig hugs & blissful wishes for June,
♥ Jessica
*PS* I really hope that you're continuing to feel better with each passing day. You've been in my thoughts and heart lately. ♥
I love roses, but sadly my own rose bushes are not looking to happy at the moment, I think they caught a disease but I am hoping they will bounce back. I have always liked the rather bold print rose floral patterns have. My favorites are the less traditional rose colors, like yellow or blue!
ReplyDeleteOh no, the poor things! Our three little bushes are the only plants, save for a tree (that was there long before we moved in) that we planted in our front yard, as it's super tiny and has almost no room to grow things on. Luckily we could squeeze in these tiny bushes though. All that to say, I don't have a lot of gardening experience at all (I didn't have gardens at the previous houses I've lived at as an adult either), so I can't even venture a guess as to what might have befallen your roses. Fingers crossed that they do indeed bounce back for you.
DeleteThat's really cool! I've always loved uniquely hued roses, too, very much including both peach and purple.
Many hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
I think I like #11 the most, which is very fitting, since 11 is my lucky number. I'm also a big fan of the hair flowers which were popular in the 1940s, particularly among teenage girls who didn't want to wear more adult hats yet.
ReplyDeleteHair flowers are marvelous accessories for sure. I wouldn't say I've worn a ton of them in recent years, but I have a nice sized collection and find that no matter what, they get the most wardrobe play for me during the very season (summer) that we're heading into soon.
DeleteBig hugs & many thanks for your lovely comment,
♥ Jessica
Wow, that's incredible that the deer come right up to your house! I wouldn't mind either :D sad for your roses though. I definitely love this flower too and you've picked out some lovely pieces. I love those shoes! It's a shame that buying shoes online is always such a risk for me because I'd probably find my narrow feet have their pick of vintage styles! x
ReplyDeleteYou are seriously lucky to have narrow feet. Mine are this weird width that falls between regular and wide - like if there was a quarter size between the two, I think that would be my ideal. I hear you big time on the challenges of shoe shopping online. I've been burned many a time there and almost never do it any more (tempted as I frequently am!).
DeleteTons of hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
Such an amazing blog post! I'm a big fan of roses so thank you for sharing all those amazing clothes and accessories.

Sandra <3
What a wonderfully nice comment, sweet Sandra. Thank you very much! I'm delighted to know that you enjoyed this post. It was such a great deal of fun to put together (and a welcome distraction from the sight of my headless rose bushes, to boot :D).
DeleteOodles of hugs & happy first week of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
Yay a dress for tall lady like me! The blue dress is super cute, but the find alone for being from a "taller lady" shop is truly the best!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices, yay for summer!
Liz :)
Isn't it though? Though I'm on the opposite side of the height spectrum, such actually makes me feel for taller ladies all the more, knowing the challenges that can accompany shopping for a non average height (and I was so thrilled to acquire this beautiful garment for those who have me beat by many an inch).
DeleteBig hugs & tons of happy start of June wishes (let's hope it's a warm, sunny one on both our ends of the country!),
♥ Jessica
Such a wonderful roundup here! I love a good flower no matter what the type, but roses always seem especially timeless and classy to me. I especially love number 14 in your list - the colors! The collar! <3 Thanks for including WAV's rose hooks in this roundup as well - honored to be included!
ReplyDeleteYou're sincerely welcome, dear Nikki. Those hooks stopped me in my tracks with their elegant beauty are 110% my style, so there's no way I could leave them out a post dedicated to this beloved bloom.
DeleteBig hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
I never really was big into floral prints until I started wearing/sewing vintage. It seems a good floral print can give even some modern garments a vintage vibe. Thus, I now find myself adding more floral to my wardrobe. Thanks for sharing these wonderful floral items, they really give a lot of wardrobe inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent point, dear Akram, thank you very much for raising it. I've noticed that as well over the years, especially with blouses and scarves (polka dots often have the same sort of "vintagefying" ability too). It's awesome that your own fondness for floral prints has grown since you got into both sewing and vintage. Are there any flowers in particular that you really love seeing in fashion form?
DeleteMany hugs & joyful wishes for June,
♥ Jessica
Fantastic round-up, vintage florals are always a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteI am patiently waiting for my magenta peonies to bloom, we have bunnies on top of bunnies in our yard that like to eat our flowers as snacks.
Awww, bunnies on top of bunnies sounds wildly adorable, though, much as with our deer, I do see why not everyone would be wild about such. Rabbits are a super rare sight around these parts. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw one in our town, but did spot some back in 2013 while we were on holiday to Calgary, Alberta, and that was certainly a memorable element of our trip (especially since Tony and I are both huge rabbit fans - so much so, in fact, that one of my nicknames for him is "Bunny").
DeleteBig hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
what a great collection of summer flower styles. That 30s tilt hat is just exquisite.Off to the garden now with the watering can !
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sublime? My two favourite types of vintage hats ever are tilt and platter/cartwheel, so this one made me know weak in the knees all the more. :)
DeleteMany hugs & thanks for your lovely comment - have a stellar June!
♥ Jessica
Jessica this is exactly why I don't grow anything at all in our garden, spacious as it is, it is also unfortunately the stomping ground for a fairly large family of deer. It's just as well that they are beautiful creatures, I love going on my porch at night to see the magnificent stags in the moonlight. That House of Foxy dress is a favorite of mine, I hope I can get my hands on it one of these days!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a stunning piece. House of Foxy's way with authentic looking vintage cuts and fabrics is so refreshing and beautiful. I can completely picture that vibrant floral stunner on you, dear Harlow, and am sure it would/will look breathtaking.
DeleteMany hugs & the happiest of wishes for June,
♥ Jessica
Ooh, deer! ;) How can you not love roses!? They are classic and beautiful and come in so many colours. In fact I've just got three pots for free. Our best friend knows one who makes them and gave them to us a gift. One of them is a red climbing one. I adore the rose printed scarf, and if it wasn't that I've just ordered from your Etsy shop, I would buy it on the spot. I've also sent you a mail with photos of our green house. Thank you for making this delightful and charming list, dear. Have a lovely day. I am home alone (again) and will go out to knit. :)
ReplyDeleteRoses really are a magnificent flower. They can be sweet, supportive (as in, given during difficult times), sophisticated, and seductive, just depending on their colour and context, and I really couldn't love them more than I do.
DeleteCongratulations on receiving three rose plants for free. Gardeners are such giving folks. I often go to local yard sales and see people giving away or putting super low prices on clippings, seeds, shoots, etc from their own gardens.
Thank you very much for your fantastic, photo filled email, my beautiful friend. I really look forward to replying to it soon.
Enjoy your peaceful day of knitting and having the house to yourself.
Tons of hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
You're right: it is impossible not to love the roses .. I deal (and I hope not to do too much damage) of my grandmother's rose, since she is no longer there ... Each bud is a great satisfaction for me .. in my garden there are red roses, light pink and yellow .. the yellow have the sunset shades, maybe they are my favorites, but the red ones are velvet petals and pink ones, grow up and represent the essence of beauty. . I'm rambling, I'm sorry! That your post is full of beauty, good taste and ... temptations! Black skirt with big red rose has a Gothic charm that I love so much, the long pink dress is so delicate and romantic ... Your every choice is really original and pleasant, it is diffcult to choose from! In my closet there are two dresses with this divine flower: Both blacks with red roses ..
ReplyDeletea big, warm hug
serena
Far from rambling, sweet dear, your poetic words on about roses and the treasured blooms from your grandma are a joy to read. It's clear how very much they mean to you. That's wonderful! Gardens are one of the greatest gifts that Mother Nature gives us and its wonderful that you have a gorgeous one of your own.
DeleteMany hugs & joyful start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
I absolutely love roses, but only the ones that actually smell like them! I've never been very impressed by the ones in the stores that look perfect, but don't smell like anything.
ReplyDeleteLovely choices, as always. I'm cursing my luck to be on a strict budget right now, because I'm dying over that rose print swimsuit!
So true! In a strange way, they almost seem like imitation roses, as they lack the heady, alluring scent of (many) grown outdoors.
DeleteI hear you there, I want the dress that wrapped up this post soooo much, but can't even consider it right now. Why must the basics of life cost so much these days - doesn't the universe know that we have vintage to buy! ;D
Big hugs & happy first week of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
I'm so sorry the deer got your roses! As much as I love deer, I don't think I could be as understanding as you are with having to live without roses in the coming months!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely round-up of items, and that hat, #2, is simply lovely. There is just something so fabulous about wearing an explosion of flowers on your head :)
The Artyologist
Hi sweet gal, thankfully there are many beautiful bushes around town, as well as an actual dedicated public rose garden (down near one of our town's two large lakes), so I don't have to go far to encounter other roses that the deer haven't gotten to yet. I'd certainly miss mine much more if I didn't have as much though.
DeleteBig hugs & happy start of June wishes,
♥ Jessica
How can we be mad at adorable animals for eating our flowers? I'll admit that cuteness sways me, and I'll be furious at slugs and not even annoyed if it's a wallaby or something sweet! I would forgive deer too :)
ReplyDeleteI used to not be keen on roses when I was young, and resisted girly things, but I think they are classy and elegant now! How we change :)
Don't we though? I think it's a magnificent thing that our tastes continue to evolve over the course of our lives and really, personally, adore seeing what will catch my eye next that I might not have been drawn to (at least to the same degree) previously.
DeleteMany hugs & joyful wishes for June,
♥ Jessica
Every time I have to de-head the over-bloomed beauties, I struggle.
ReplyDeleteJessica,
There's another reason why my invitation to have you as my guest stands open. I have (and you've seen them on Instagram) vintage roses, their flowers are as big as an average salad-head :D Being an old variety, they do tend to grow tall, with strong stems. On the other hand, I have two PINK bush roses, as wild as a bush can be! They are rampant, they bloom madly, and it break me into tears (ever time) when I have to cut HUNDREDS of flowers in one go - since they are SO OLD, they fall into that "blooming twice a year in a large burst" category.
Everything rose-related is divine.
Thank you for sharing these.
M.
You are so very lucky to have huge, gorgeous vintage style cabbage roses in your garden. Their loveliness - and scent - is beyond compare in the rose world and really does feel like a tangible piece of the past that we're able to continue to cultivate to this very day. Should I ever have the great pleasure of visiting you, it would certainly be all the more of a treat to do so when your garden is in bloom and the mere thought of such brings me no shortage of joy.
DeleteMany hugs & joyful wishes for a great June,
♥ Jessica
I love rose print anything but recently purchased two tropical flower print dresses which are somewhat out of my comfort zone!
ReplyDeleteThe House of Foxy dress I so pretty!
xxx
How exciting! I'm a big fan of tropical prints! We get some seriously hot weather (upwards of 40C is not uncommon at all) here during the thick of the summer months and Hawaii worthy florals seem super at home when such is the case. I hope you get a lot of wear out of your beautiful new frocks, dear Melanie.
DeleteTons of hugs & sincere thanks for all of your awesome comments today,
♥ Jessica
I am sad for your roses but I do think it is marvellous that you get deer so close to your house. I hope that you get to watch them. Great selection of rose related items. I do like a rose print and am particularly partial to 1950's blue rose prints. I love the smell of roses too, in fact, my mum just gave me a rose and peony scented soap and it is divine!
ReplyDeleteThank you sweetly, my dear friend. Excitingly, this weekend I saw two blooms on the red rose bush closest to our front steps, so there's a chance that if the deer don't come by for round two, we might get some blooms this month on that bust at least. I haven't actually seen them that close, but have spotted them only a few feet further away and it truly is a majestic sight to behold.
DeleteSame here! The smell of roses is so incredibly lovely. I just bought a small (glass jar type) rose candle a couple of weeks ago to burn throughout the summer for an extra hit of that classic scent.
Many hugs & happy Tuesday wishes,
♥ Jessica
Jessica you had me at the floral scarf -
ReplyDeleteNow that I think of it I do not own that many flower print items..
Over the years (and especially since becoming a fashion blogger), I've noticed that folks tend to either have tons of floral print/themed items (that's the camp I fall into) or very few. It's quite interesting! Are you a fan of them in general, my lovely friend?
DeleteOodles of hugs,
♥ Jessica
Love looking through these picks! So gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted to hear that, honey, thank you - and, now a couple of weeks later, I can report that one of our rose bushes has managed to grow a couple of red blooms, so I'm not quite as rose-less as things were looking in late May.
DeleteMany hugs & happy mid-June wishes,
